Peer to Peer Support Workshop

This interactive workshop is open to both anaesthesiology trainees and consultants, aiming to build confidence in providing peer-to-peer support within clinical teams. Working in anaesthesia can be challenging, and recognising signs of stress and burnout—both in ourselves and our colleagues—is vital for wellbeing and team performance. The session will explore how to initiate supportive conversations, listen empathetically, and respond appropriately when colleagues are in difficulty. Using discussion, case examples, and simple communication frameworks, participants will develop practical tools to enhance psychological safety and mutual support. Themes of burnout, communication, and compassionate leadership will be woven throughout, highlighting the role of peer support in fostering resilience and a positive team culture. Whether you're early in training or in a leadership role, this workshop will help you contribute to a healthier, more open and supportive workplace.

Shared Decision Making Workshop

Dr Debra Leung is a Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. With a strong clinical and academic focus on perioperative medicine and high-risk oncology surgery, she is nationally recognised for her leadership in advancing shared decision-making (SDM) in anaesthesiology. Dr Leung founded and leads the Shared Decision-Making Pathway at Peter Mac, a multidisciplinary initiative supporting patients facing complex, high-risk surgical choices. Dr Leung will lead a half-day interactive workshop on Shared Decision-Making in Anaesthesiology. The session will provide practical tools and communication strategies for implementing SDM in daily anaesthetic practice, particularly with high-risk or vulnerable patient groups. Participants will explore case-based discussions, learn how to navigate uncertainty and risk communication, and enhance their ability to support truly collaborative care. This workshop is ideal for anaesthesiologists aiming to deepen their understanding of SDM and strengthen patient-centred approaches within perioperative teams.
